A Symphony Reborn
Many of us watched with broken hearts over the past several years as the board of the San Antonio Symphony slashed its financial support for its own musicians, shut out musicians from organizational decision-making, and then ultimately dissolved the historied Symphony itself by board vote this past June. As a musician who has suffered beneath similar board malfeasance/ineptitude (and in the not-too-distant past), I felt this dissolution like a gut-punch, though not nearly as much as my lovely friends who had played in the symphony for years.
In an amazing rebound, however, the musicians of the San Antonio Symphony have reorganized and arisen from the ashes as the San Antonio Philharmonic. I am immensely proud of this terrific group of humans, and I heartily recommend throwing your support behind this new/old organization as they kick off their inaugural season!
