Farewell to George Crumb

I’d not considered entering the field of musical composition until I encountered the music of George Crumb in my late teens. Crumb’s approach to sound and the infinite possibilities therein broke open my young mind in a profoundly wonderful way. 

When I later had the privilege of crossing paths with him, I managed to keep a professional visage and spare him the gazillion pesky fanboy queries bouncing around in my brain… though not without a good deal of effort on my part. 

A genius and visionary, through and through. 

RIP George Crumb (1929-2022). Thank you for the music.
