I’m on a Boat: Convergence featured in premiere of Steve Parker’s Foghorn Elegy

The composer prepares his sonic toys

I had SUCH a fun time tonight performing with my Convergence partner in-crime Cameron Beauchamp, especially since it is the first time we’ve been able to collaborate since Covid shut the world down. Our composer pal (and Prix de Rome-winner) Steve Parker gathered a group of friends including Alexa Capareda, Thor Harris, Mark McCoin, Pamela Martinez, and a host of badass artists to create his new multi-media work entitled Foghorn Elegy.

While dance and sound were featured on the Laguna Gloria lawn, Cameron and I served as the “two if by sea” contingent: providing a sonic sneak attack by boat, whilst armed with megaphones. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Steve Parker on many occasions and have always enjoyed whatever bizarre and imaginative things he asks of his guest artists, but getting to perform on a boat was a fun first for me!

Lastly: thanks to the Austin Chronicle’s Wayne Alan Brenner for the shoutout!
