Moving Panoramas at Schellraiser Music Festival
Just getting back to Austin from Nevada after playing the inaugural Schellraiser Music Fest with Moving Panoramas. Having been thwarted twice by COVID in 2020 and in 2021, our Schellraiser friends were able to fly us in and launch their event with aplomb.
A three-day event with headliners including Old 97’s, Broncho, Nikki Lane and more, we were slated for a mid-afternoon spot in the afternoon of the final day. Having flown into Las Vegas, we then made the long trek through the mountain desert to McGill. After a peaceful sleep in the hotel, we found our way to the festival grounds for sound check. In spite of the newness and remoteness of the festival, we were greeted to a beautifully warm reception by the audience and fellow billmates alike. Having finished our work, we enjoyed the festival’s generous hospitality and community. After Broncho laid down a beautifully incendiary set, we headed back to our hotel to sleep it all off.
Monday gave us some playtime in Las Vegas, which we spent primarily at Meow Wolf (which I can heartily recommend). Some of my band mates planned to stick around for more Vegas fun, while I had to catch an early plane back to prep for my looming Victoria Bach Festival gig. Minus having my guitar screwdriver taken by TSA agents (the agents at least had a sense of humor about things, even posing for a pic with their newly acquired tool), it was a nice quick trip back to Austin.
Best of wishes to our beautiful new friends of Schellraiser. Thanks for the music… and for granting us a reprieve from the brutal Texas heat for a few days.
