Ryuichi Sakamoto: Artistic Renaissance Man

The future of music according to Ryuichi Sakamoto

The world of electronic music has lost one of its most influential pioneers. Ryuichi Sakamoto's music has left an indelible mark on generations of artists, including myself. The first time I heard his work was through his film scores for The Last Emperor and The Sheltering Sky, both of which seamlessly blended sound and sight with an artful sensitivity that left me stunned. His talent inspired me to seek out his solo recordings as well as his work with Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Despite his numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe, Oscar, BAFTA, and Grammy Award, Sakamoto never stopped pushing the boundaries of art. He continued to produce albums, explore acting, embrace anti-war activism, and collaborate with an array of international artists, such as Brian Eno, Cyndi Lauper, Youssou N'Dour, and Fennesz. His work knew no artistic boundaries, and made the world a better place for all of us.

Sadly, cancer has taken yet another giant from us. Rest in Power, Ryuichi Sakamoto. Your art has been a gift to the world, and we are all grateful.
