Pandemic Habits Die Hard (and That's a Good Thing): Duolingo, and How a Shutdown Changed My Daily Routine
The COVID shutdown was a challenging time for everyone. We were all cooped up inside, craving the freedom of the outside world. However, amidst the chaos, many of us discovered a silver lining: the opportunity to indulge in hobbies and activities that we had always wanted to try but never had the time for.
For me, this meant re-immersing myself in my passion for music. I devoted myself to practicing my various instruments, honing my skills with a newfound sense of determination. In addition to my musical pursuits, I also recommitted to running, a habit that I had always wanted to establish more firmly, though this often proved difficult while living the life of non-stop rehearsals, performances, production meetings, etc.
One day, I witnessed my then-fiancée (now my wife) diligently working on her daily Duolingo French exercises. Impressed by her dedication (she had been at it as long as I’ve known her), I decided to join in on the fun and added Duolingo to my daily routine as well.
Now, 1000 days later, I can confidently say that I have developed a healthier lifestyle thanks to the pandemic. Although I wouldn't call myself fluent in any language, including English at times, I'm proud to have incorporated a regular routine of daily practices into my life. And I have Duolingo to thank for that!
